The birth of Lord Sri Krishna is one of the most divine and celebrated events in Hindu tradition.

Long ago, in the kingdom of Mathura, there lived a cruel king named Kansa. A heavenly prophecy declared that the eighth child of his sister Devaki would be the cause of his downfall. Terrified, Kansa imprisoned Devaki and her husband Vasudeva.

One by one, Kansa killed their first seven children.
But when the eighth child was about to be born, the universe itself awaited a miracle.

On the auspicious night of Shravana Krishna Ashtami, a bright, divine light filled the prison. Devaki prayed with devotion, and at midnight, Lord Vishnu took birth as Sri Krishna, appearing in his divine form holding Shankha, Chakra, Gada, and Padma. He then instructed Vasudeva to take Him to Gokul.

Miraculously, the prison doors opened, the guards fell asleep, and the rainstorm eased as Sheshnag protected baby Krishna with his hoods.

Vasudeva carried the newborn across the flowing Yamuna River to Gokul, where he exchanged him with the baby girl of Yashoda and Nanda Maharaj.

When Kansa tried to kill the baby girl, she transformed into Yogmaya and declared:
“Your destroyer is already born elsewhere!”

Thus, Sri Krishna grew up in Gokul, protected by divine grace, to destroy evil and establish Dharma for all ages.
